چکیده

A model of the Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) of dipolar atoms, confined in a combination of a cigar-shaped trap and optical lattice acting in the axial direction, is studied in the framework of the one-dimensional (1D) nonpolynomial Schrödinger equation (NPSE) with additional terms describing long-range dipoledipole (DD) interactions. The NPSE makes it possible to describe the collapse of localized modes, which was experimentally observed in the self-attractive BEC confined in tight traps, in the framework of the 1D description. We study the influence of the DD interactions on the dynamics of bright solitons, especially as concerns their collapseinduced instability. Both attractive and repulsive contact and DD interactions are considered. The results are summarized in the form of stability/collapse diagrams in a respective parametric space. In particular, it is shown that the attractive DD interactions may prevent the collapse instability in the condensate with attractive contact interactions. In this paper, we investigated the effect of dipole-dipole interaction between the dust particles on the transverse oscillation of one dimensional dusty crystal. We used the Boltzmann distribution for the electrons and ions density and assumed that dust particles are negatively charged. The equation of motion for dust particles in this one dimensional chain was obtained. It is shown that the di...

Bright solitons in a two-dimensional spin-orbit-coupled dipolar Bose-Einstein condensate

We study a two-dimensional spin-orbit-coupled dipolar Bose-Einstein condensate with repulsive contact interactions by both the variational method and the imaginary-time evolution of the Gross-Pitaevskii equation. The dipoles are completely polarized along one direction in the two-dimensional plane to provide an effective attractive dipole-dipole interaction. We find two types of solitons as the...

Dipole and Quadrupole Solitons in Optically Induced Two-Dimensional Photonic Lattices: Theory and Experiment

Dipole and quadrupole solitons in a two-dimensional photorefractive optical lattice are investigated both theoretically and experimentally. It is shown theoretically that out-of-phase dipole solitons and quadrupole solitons exist and are linearly stable in the intermediate-intensity regime. In-phase dipole and quadrupole solitons, however, are always linearly unstable, but their instabilities a...

Transverse instability of vector solitons and generation of dipole arrays.

We develop a theory of modulational instability of multiparameter solitary waves and analyze the transverse instability of composite (or vector) optical solitons in a saturable nonlinear medium. We demonstrate theoretically and experimentally that a soliton stripe breaks up into an array of ( 2+1)-dimensional dipole-mode vector solitons, thus confirming the robust nature of those solitons as fu...

An Improved ISM Equation of State for Polar Fluids

We developed an equation of state (EOS) by Ihm, Song, and Mason (ISM) for polar fluids. The model consists of four parameters, namely, the second virial coefficient, an effective van der Waals co-volume, a scaling factor, and the reduced dipole moment. The second virial coefficient is calculated from a correlation that uses the heat of vaporization, and the liquid density at the normal boiling ...
